Samtalekoncert: Mette Kathrine Stærk & Jullie Hjetland

On Friday afternoon the festival invites you to a conversation concert at FOLK with Mette Kathrine Stærk and Jullie Hjetland. The format makes room for the music and the conversation around it, bringing you close to the two musicians and their world.

Mette Kathrine Stærk

Mette Kathrine Stærk is a rigsspillemand (a Danish honorary title for traditional musicians), composer and storyteller, with the accordion as her instrument. She trained on the folk music programme at the Funen Academy of Music, works as a freelance folk musician and plays in the song trio Zenobia and in the fiddler duo Jensen & Bugge with violinist Kristian Bugge. To her, folk music and storytelling go hand in hand: she spent a year visiting 80 traditional musicians from Thy to Christiania, and the stories and anecdotes she has gathered on her travels come with her on stage.

Jullie Hjetland

Jullie Hjetland is a Danish-Norwegian singer, composer and performer with roots in the Nordic folk tradition. She holds a master's degree in Nordic folk music from the University of Bergen and trained in the Contemporary Creative Art soloist class at the Danish National Academy of Music in Esbjerg, and she moves freely across genres, from experimental folk and jazz to theatre and electronic soundscapes. With her voice and body as her instrument, she performs with a directness and honesty that invites the audience right into her artistic world. She has been nominated for Danish Music Awards in both the jazz and folk categories, and for a Reumert, Denmark's leading theatre award, in 2018 and 2025.
