KOM FOLK DANS! · Nordisk Dans, Østjyderne & Floating Sofa Quartet

Aarhus Folk Festival peaks with a big, living dance ball! You are invited straight onto the dance floor, where traditional dances become a social and inclusive experience across ages and levels of experience. Everyone is welcome.

KOM FOLK DANS is arranged in collaboration with Nordisk Dans, who also lead the evening's short beginners' workshop. Spillemandslauget Østjyderne and Floating Sofa Quartet play for the ball.

Spillemandslauget Østjyderne

Spillemandslauget Østjyderne is a large fiddlers' orchestra that has played for folk dancing and festivities in Aarhus and the surrounding area for 48 years. They play traditional Danish and Nordic dance music, arranged for a mix of instruments and high spirits. Everyone is welcome on the dance floor, beginner or experienced, young or old.

Floating Sofa Quartet

Floating Sofa Quartet brings together four folk musicians from Denmark, Finland and Sweden. Since 2013, they have crossed borders with their own take on Nordic folk music, keeping the countries' shared cultural heritage alive while giving it new shape. Their latest album, “Tides” from 2025, once again centres the quartet's own compositions.

The quartet are renowned as a compelling live act with a distinctive sound and contagious stage presence. They have toured widely across Northern Europe and played festivals including Tønder Festival, Kaustinen, Førde, Korrö and folkBALTICA.

The quartet is Clara Tesch on fiddle, Leija Lautamaja on diatonic accordion and reed organ, Malte Zeberg on double bass, and Mads Kjøller Henningsen on flute and Nordic bagpipes.

When the ball finishes at midnight, the night continues with a jam and afterparty.
