Traditional Irish music

Louise Ring Vangsgaard

Irish tunes, learned by ear at a gentle pace

Louise Ring Vangsgaard is a folk musician with a focus on Nordic and Irish music. She is a deputy member of the Aarhus Folk Festival board and also serves on the board of Roots Aarhus. Louise is one of the driving forces behind the Irish jam at Waxies every Sunday.

Louise has been immersed in traditional Irish music since her early twenties. She has taken part in many sessions and summer schools in Ireland and helps lead the annual Irish music camp on Omø, where dance is also taught.

At the festival, Louise leads Slow Session at Waxies, organised by Roots Aarhus. Participants learn Irish tunes from the beginning, starting slowly and gradually picking up the pace. Learning is mainly by ear, letting the melodies find their way into the fingers.
