Phønix

The award-winning, internationally recognised folk band Phønix plays Skt. Lukas Kirke on Sunday 27 September at 19.00. Admission is free.

Phønix is one of the most experienced Danish folk bands, with a sound of its own that is modern and rooted in Danish folk music. Their intense, energetic stage presence has taken them from the biggest folk festivals to the most intimate club stages around the world, and into local Danish churches.

In Skt. Lukas Kirke we get to hear hymns reinterpreted through folk music. In 2019 the Danish daily Kristeligt Dagblad wrote that Phønix had taken some of the best-known Danish hymn melodies back to their folk roots, putting a lift and a swing into classics such as “Lille Guds barn, hvad skader dig” and “Nu rinder solen op af østerlide”.

Phønix is Anja Præst on clarinet, Jesper Falch on percussion, Karen Mose on vocals and keys, and Jesper Vinther on accordion.

An occasional choir of enthusiastic folk singers joins the concert. Everyone can take part: the choir rehearses at Karen Mose's singing workshop the same afternoon, which is also part of the festival.
